We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with extensive specialist experience.

It is more likely that we can  place you if you are say a local government management accountant  with good budget management and grants monitoring expertise, or a housing fixed assets and treasury specialist, rather than a general "accountant".

This is because we have seen clients becoming increasingly selective in their requirements, especially since around Spring '08. A lot of clients are also using managed vendor service providers who screen and collate CVs on their behalf.

We have also seen rates dropping this year, especially in the temporary market. Assignments that were commanding £30 per hour are now being asked for at around £25. we believe this is a sign of a slowing of the economy, where economic growth and consumer growth have declined throughout 2008.

Although the commercial and industrial sectors have suffered most, particularly housebuilders, property companies, retail, banking and more recently manufacturing, parts of the public sector have been immune. Charities, particularly smaller ones, have in some cases frozen their budgets and / or put recruitment (especially contractors) on hold. Central Government and other public bodies have also cut back.

But larger charities, the NHS (including acute trusts, mental health trusts and pcts), and local government are as bouyant now as they were this time last year. Therefore there are opportunities available, and even though in some sectors there are as many as before, there are more candidates chasing them because of the contraction in other sectors.

With our in depth knowledge of these particular market sectors we are well placed to match good candidates to the right opportunities.
